Member Spotlight: Carlos Juarbe, Co-Director
How would you describe your photography in one sentence?
My photography is intimate, light-driven portraiture that blends emotion, movement, and quiet moments into soft, editorial storytelling.
What initially drew you to Camera of the Month Club?
A friend invited me 8 + years ago and I was drawn to Camera of the Month Club instantly because it felt like a space that values process, community, and growth. Not just gear, and I wanted to be part of something that celebrates photography as a craft and a practice, not just content.
What’s something you’ve learned about your photography since becoming a director?
I’ve learned that my strongest work happens when I trust my instincts and create space for real moments, instead of trying to control every detail or chase a specific “look.”
How has your relationship to photography changed over the last few years?
It’s become slower and more intentional—I care less about proving something and more about making images that feel honest, personal, and connected to how I actually see people and spaces.
Share 5–10 images from your archive that excite you right now. What connects them?
I’m most excited by a group of portraits that focus on natural light, interior spaces, and expressive body language—images where the subject is relaxed, the environment feels lived-in, and the mood is quiet but powerful. What connects them is a sense of intimacy: soft light, organic textures (plants, fabric, skin), and a feeling that you’re witnessing a private moment rather than a performance.
